Terminal prompt with color
#11
skube,

I and Coastie took exception to the terminal shared by Trinidad as being part of an official release.  Since you're introducing the ElementaryOS terminal in your position, it appears that we're not talking about the same thing.

My apologies. I understood the latest replies to mean that adding any colour to the Terminal would be unnecessary extra work for the team. I agree, the terminal present by Trinidad does not offer any additional value, imho.

My position is that the default Terminal in LL could however be improved with some simple colour & font choices.

I am not sure what torreydale calls the typical user, but I doubt a new Linux user will have any interest in using the terminal no matter what the colors are. I have been using Linux full time for almost two years and still don't like to use it. When I do it is copy and paste only.

As I have posted before, if I wanted to use a terminal and memorize all those commands, I would have stuck with DOS!  ;D

Fair enough. Although considering that Terminal is pinned to the Panel by default seems to indicate it is something that will be used often.

Perhaps if it was less intimidating in appearance it would be more of a pleasure to use.  8)

We're getting a tad off track.  I started this thread with the simple suggestion of having a colored terminal prompt.  If we want to discuss what we think about terminals overall, or having a niche customization job of a terminal implemented distro-wide, it should at least be done in a new thread.

skube,
Having the Droid Sans Mono font added to the distro (and possibly used as the default font for the Terminal instead of Monospace) is a good one since Droid Sans is already the default font for the rest of Linux Lite.  Consider making that suggestion in a separate thread.  Perhaps you can introduce your style and color suggestions there as well.
