Terminal prompt with color
#1
Looking at this video today reminded me that I'd like to have color in the terminal prompt.  It adds some contrast.

Started putting together a few old 32bit boxes for thin client use in a series of instructionals I'll be running starting Jan.15. All going to be Linux Lite if all goes well, networked to my little Deb server. Anyway I spruced up a terminal today which I think I will set up on all the clients, or maybe include as part of the series. Used screenfetch, figlet, fim, XFCE4 term, and Nix to fix the prompt to produce this. Yes I have a thing for lightening. Not a Gimp user myself.

OH yeah ! That terminal really looks great ! I love it !

I suggest to adding it to Linux Lite in the next release....... Jerry what do you think ?

Maybe some contrast adjustments with the bright/dark on the background to be more readable ?

I think it's overkill for the typical user for it to be in an official release.

Agreed. Unnecessary extra work for Jerry and his team.

If I may, I disagree. I think a little colour (and style) goes a long way in helping new users. In fact, there is some colour already by default with LL.

Obviously the Terminal is very important to LL users. After all, it is one of the four apps chosen to be on Panel right out of the box. And yet, I think it could definitely be more welcoming.

Look at ElementaryOS' default Terminal for example:

It's cool yet calm. Slightly softer and more inviting. The font (Droid Sans Mono) a little more welcoming. Colour is tastefully applied and offers hints at discrete information.

It may be a little thing but if LL is truly trying to appeal to the new gnu/linux user then I would think they would want to make it as inviting as possible.

Thanks and great work by the way!  Smile
