Linux Lite 4.0 Suggestions welcomed

Once I suggested replacing KeepassX by Keepass2 which I still mainly use (maybe more out of habit). But meanwhile I have also KeepassXC installed and use it, too.

Due to the character of Linux Lite to keep things simple & light I assume KeepassXC would be the better option. No mono and wine required. And nevertheless it offers auto-typing.

Thanks for your consideration

Keepassx (10) actually has less dependencies then Keepassxc (17). Keepassxc also requires a number of qt5 libs. Whats the difference in memory usage?

You assume correctly [member=2]Jerry[/member] , it says -
"Python3 GUI using the idevice & ifuse projects to mount & unmount iPhone & iPad filesystems "

Does that dependency calculation include wine and mono?

memory usage:

via ps:
USER      PID %CPU %MEM    VSZ  RSS TTY      STAT START  TIME COMMAND
xx        5490  0.6  2.2 730928 92028 ?        Sl  19:05  0:02 keepassxc
xx        8922  0.5  2.7 1275384 112024 ?      Sl  10:59  2:44 /usr/bin/cli /usr/lib/keepass2/KeePass.exe

via Task Manager:
KeePass.exe  109MB
KeePassXC    92MB

KeePassXC starts a lot faster and is snappier. Also, KeePass2 crashes now and then and doesn't appear as native.
What I do miss in KeePassXC is (currently) the possibility to use the backup plugin respectively KeePass plugins in general.

Hope that helps Smile

[member=4826]LL-user[/member] Keepassx doesn't use wine and mono. I've never used or offered KeePass2 so I don't know it's crash history.

In the light of targeting Windows users I'd assume the majority uses Keepass2 over Keepassx. That's and the fact that Keepassx hasn't been updated for quite a while and is missing the very handy auto-type feature made me suggest a replacement.
To keep it as familiar as possible to Windows converts it would need Keepass2. KeepassXC would take them already on a journey, but at least with a few advantages. I see Keepassx definitely at the bottom of the list at the moment and therefore have never installed it for people I support switching over to Linux Lite.

some one here commented something about cloud usage (or was it storage ?) , i never used any kind of cloud, please dont make Linux lite "cloud" only, as for making it more usable for people that are thinking or have moved from windows to Linux, that is fine, but for me i moved from windows To Linux for a reason and that reason is this ........ Its Linux......not a windows , i moved to Linux not only because i dislike windows 10, i moved to Linux because it most times will keep a old PC from heading to the recycling yard and or landfills and end up poisoning the environment , at least till the old PC is no longer usable, i am not here to use windows, so i hope the people who use windows , do some research on how to use linux and maybe save a old pc from heading to the junk yard. oh one suggestion tho , when we set our mouse pointer(cursor) to a bigger size, it should stay that way until we change it , lol,

[member=4826]LL-user[/member] thanks for the suggestion. Will consider it carefully.

Just to chip in.  I use KeepPassX 2.90.2 (which I believe is in the Lite Software list) revision 3679b2170142c14362fa75e990ef85b80b1b1b46.  Assuming that this updates normally when using menu / Favorites / Install Updates, then this should be the latest version as of mid-February.

I am able to use its auto-type feature without (obvious) problems, so it does that that: Right-click database entry you created for ID and password and left-lick Perform Auto-type.

If you should update or change to a different version as suggested, I would need to be able to convert the KeePassX 2.90.2 compatible database to being usable by KeePassXC.

Thanks.

HI,
I Found a lot of softwares, specially daemon  are installed but not actually used by the common users:  in my case I never use the samba, nmbd, smbd....
I suggeste to install the most used and leave the user to complete and custome his installation when necessary.
regards
