Lxde may indeed be lighter, but not by enough to make a significant difference. Xfce is light enough to install on almost all PCs that are still being used today -- I've installed it on a few old P4's from 2001-02 with only 512MB of RAM and it works better than when they had XP on them. Aside from that, Xfce also allows for way more options to tweak and customize it than Lxde. So, for those that do want to spruce it up a bit, its much better. Just my 2 cents.
