"Weird" behaviour after install LL 5.2
#2
I think you asked about this back in November.

I don't think you can easily eliminate GRUB - it is the boot loader and it launches an OS kernel after the system has booted from its firmware.  Because there are many combinations of firmware and OS, GRUB has to be quite complex but normally you shouldn't see it unless maybe you have a dual boot system and have to manually choose between say W10 and linux.

If you are getting a GRUB prompt screen this could be because there is a problem with the system firmware (BIOS or UEFI settings) or maybe the OS kernel isn't where GRUB thinks it should be or perhaps the configuration settings GRUB needs are inaccessible or incorrect.  Troubleshooting from the GRUB prompt screen should be possible and is probably much easier than eliminating GRUB and using a different boot loader.

You mention your system is an older HP - does it have UEFI or BIOS ?

LL ver 5.0 introduced support for UEFI by default.  Linux lite help manual has a good guide to installing on either BIOS or UEFI systems.
