Thanks Moltke. Was worried that the virtual machine approach would slow the rest of the LL experience down. So bit the bullet and reformatted the HDD , loaded W7 64Bit ( took 14 GB with updates and a few bits and bobs - Sophos etc)) and Loaded LL 4.0 64 bit in Dual Boot.
Partitioned 30GB for W7 and rest (80 GB) for LL.. Will have to live with that. It is only for on site work - not main machine.
Never thought I would have to go near W again, but needs must in this case ( for now ?)
