Play on linux won't do it - justme2 - 07-17-2018 [member=149]newtusmaximus[/member] - Have you tried different compatability modes in wine config? Do you get any wine error messages indicating dll problems? You may have seen options to override built in dlls with windows dlls. Is the exe a commercial program which may be listed in the Wine compatability database? Not all windows programs can be persuaded to run with wine. You *may* find a solution from these pointers. Re: need to run windows exe file. Play on linux won't do it - newtusmaximus - 07-17-2018 Thank you. It is a commercial exe file not on the Wine checked list - installer for a dashboard, Tried running wine as XP but the laptop is running 64bit LL. Will try again. Under time constraints, so probably will have to bite the bullet and install windows7 on this machine temporarily and look to see whether I can get it to run on wine later. Thanks again Re: need to run windows exe file. Play on linux won't do it - Moltke - 07-18-2018 (07-16-2018, 11:26 PM)newtusmaximus link Wrote: I ahve a windows exe file I need to run for a demo. Dual boot. Hi [member=149]newtusmaximus[/member] I also have a couple of windows' programs that didn't work on wine, the only way I managed to get them running is by creating a Windows 7 virtual machine, you could try that and see how that goes. You can use qemu or virtualbox which is in lite software and can be easily installed within a few clicks for that purpose. Hope this helps! Re: need to run windows exe file. Play on linux won't do it - newtusmaximus - 07-18-2018 Thanks Moltke. Was worried that the virtual machine approach would slow the rest of the LL experience down. So bit the bullet and reformatted the HDD , loaded W7 64Bit ( took 14 GB with updates and a few bits and bobs - Sophos etc)) and Loaded LL 4.0 64 bit in Dual Boot. Partitioned 30GB for W7 and rest (80 GB) for LL.. Will have to live with that. It is only for on site work - not main machine. Never thought I would have to go near W again, but needs must in this case ( for now ?) |
