UPDATE - uninstalled playonlinux and installed wine from Lite software. No chnage

I also have a couple of windows' programs that didn't work on wine, the only way I managed to get them running is by creating a Windows 7 virtual machine, you could try that and see how that goes. You can use qemu or virtualbox which is in lite software and can be easily installed within a few clicks for that purpose.
