2)If you are landing in emegency mode it is probably because you forgot to run update-grub after partitioning. Boot into a bash (not root) terminal from grub for the specified kernel and run: sudo update-grub.

I was able to load Linux Lite 3.6, thanks for that, though i haven't installed it yet..
I have one partition but it's very small (40gb) and I also have unallocated space. When I install Linux Lite 3.6 will I be able to claim that space and expand my logical partition and make one large partition?
