Emergency mode not accepting password - micahel - 09-20-2017

After making new partitions and mounting them I restarted and was brought to the emergency mode screen, but it wouldn't accept my password. I assume it need my super user password? Why wouldn't work?

I would like to recover my info and all my work, but if it's a lost cause I'd like to know how I can install the newest version of Linux Lite if I already has Lite 3.0 installed. I tried using a usb stick with 3.6 burned on it but I get the 3.0 screen and no option to install 3.6.

Linux is the only OS installed in my machine and I'm Currently using Puppy Linux to solve this problem. Thanks for any help.

I'm a little confused by your question.
1)If you want to boot from USB use the one time boot menu selector, often the F12 key, and select boot from USB.
2)If you are landing in emegency mode it is probably because you forgot to run update-grub after partitioning. Boot into a bash (not root) terminal from grub for the specified kernel and run: sudo update-grub.

I was able to load Linux Lite 3.6, thanks for that, though i haven't installed it yet..

I have one partition but it's very small (40gb) and I also have unallocated space. When I install Linux Lite 3.6 will I be able to claim that space and expand my logical partition and make one large partition?

You can install 3.6 to the whole drive to begin with if you like. The installer will give you that option but that will overwrite the whole drive. If you are trying to rescue data on the 40g partition you will have to install 3.6 to another partition on the drive (the unallocated space in your case) and the installer can provide you with that option as well. Check the help manual to understand this.

I have successfully resolved my issue. I didn't recover my data but I back-up often and didn't lose much. Thanks for the help.
