So BIOS settings for virtualisation (VT/VT-x/AMD-v ??) should be O.K
Check in the LL2.8 VM settings.?

I'm sorry that I couldn't reply earlier. I had to get some sleep but the issue got resolved. After Jerry's suggestion I figured that it gotta be the settings on the Virtualbox because I'm running an XP as a VM so the BIOS thing was not likely. So I downloaded another linux distro ( .iso ) and tried it but although the installation with that distro started it failed immediately with an error from Virtualbox telling me that there was a problem and it could be resolved by enabling that PAE thingy which I did and then both OS's worked.
So basically it was like you and Jerry suspected. The settings on the Virtualbox were not quite right. If i had read some documentation on Virtualbox maybe this wouldn't have happened but I was kinda excited and couldn't wait to try me some linux. I'm kinda getting a nasty smell coming from the you know whos OS.
Anyways. Thank you all for your help. Unlike what I've heard (youtube mostly) you seem to be a very friendly community and willing to help. This is great. After I get home I'm gonna test LL 2.8 a little bit and probably (highly likely actually ;D ) I'm gonna be around looking for help again because I started messing with Linux only a couple of days ago. And it looks very different from what I'm used to.
Thanks again you all and have a nice day.
