Can't install Linux Lite in virtualbox 5 - ButtScratcher - 03-20-2016 Hi guys, my first time on this forum. After seeing a review of it on Youtube I thought I'd give Linux Lite 2.8 a try but I'm having some problems. So far I've download the .iso file of Linux Lite 2.8 x32 (because in my old rig I can only install x32 OS's in Virtualbox). Tried to run (or install) Linux Lite inside the virutalbox but it doesn't even start the installation process. When I load the .iso file from virtualbox everything goes fine (you know, New machine, Amount of memory, etc.) until it gets to the starting (booting) screen of Linux Lite. When Linux Lite starts booting inside virtualbox there's a countdown going from ten to 1 but when it reaches one it just stops. I've tried this also inside Linux Mint 17.2 (running from an external HDD with virtualbox 4. ..something) the same thing. I'm running openSUSE LEAP 42.1 (x64) as host OS. Here's a picture of the screen when it hangs. ![]() Some more info. As long as the countdown is running I can select all the options from the list provided (by moving with arrows) and also going into advanced options with tab but after the countdown hits one nothing works anymore. Thank you for taking the time to read this. ![]() Re: Can't install Linux Lite in virtualbox 5 - LL-user - 03-20-2016 Hi ButtScratcher, Did you check the integrity of your downloaded iso (md5sum check)? Hope that helps ![]() Re: Can't install Linux Lite in virtualbox 5 - ButtScratcher - 03-21-2016 (03-20-2016, 11:42 PM)LL-user link Wrote:Hi ButtScratcher, I did and I should have mentioned that in my first post. Sorry. Re: Can't install Linux Lite in virtualbox 5 - avj - 03-21-2016 I have not run LL in a vm, but I usually just hit enter to start Linux Lite rather than waiting for it to count down. Hope that helps. ![]() Re: Can't install Linux Lite in virtualbox 5 - ButtScratcher - 03-21-2016 (03-21-2016, 01:27 AM)avj link Wrote:I have not run LL in a vm, but I usually just hit enter to start Linux Lite rather than waiting for it to count down. Thank you for your efforts to help (both of you guys). ![]() Though I admit that I'm pretty new to the whole Linux world I've been using computers for quite a while so a thing as simple as hitting enter wont make me post a question in an online forum. Especially not, considering the fact that I see asking on forums only as a last resort. Again thanks for the time you took to read my post and trying to help. ![]() Re: Can't install Linux Lite in virtualbox 5 - Valtam - 03-21-2016 It's going to be either one of the Settings in VirtualBox for that particular virtual machine or virtualisation isn't enabled in the Bios. Maybe it will help, it's worth a try and when you have time post the info Jerry asked for in the previous reply. ![]() Re: Can't install Linux Lite in virtualbox 5 - Wirezfree - 03-21-2016 From your wording it sounds like you have "other" VM's running on this PC.? So BIOS settings for virtualisation (VT/VT-x/AMD-v ??) should be O.K Check in the LL2.8 VM settings.? > General, Basic tab, you have Ubuntu 32bit selected.? > System, Processor tab, do you have PAE/NX ticked [X]. (not sure on this, never used 32 bit) Re: Can't install Linux Lite in virtualbox 5 - ButtScratcher - 03-21-2016 (03-21-2016, 10:33 AM)Wirezfree link Wrote:From your wording it sounds like you have "other" VM's running on this PC.? I'm sorry that I couldn't reply earlier. I had to get some sleep but the issue got resolved. After Jerry's suggestion I figured that it gotta be the settings on the Virtualbox because I'm running an XP as a VM so the BIOS thing was not likely. So I downloaded another linux distro ( .iso ) and tried it but although the installation with that distro started it failed immediately with an error from Virtualbox telling me that there was a problem and it could be resolved by enabling that PAE thingy which I did and then both OS's worked. So basically it was like you and Jerry suspected. The settings on the Virtualbox were not quite right. If i had read some documentation on Virtualbox maybe this wouldn't have happened but I was kinda excited and couldn't wait to try me some linux. I'm kinda getting a nasty smell coming from the you know whos OS. Anyways. Thank you all for your help. Unlike what I've heard (youtube mostly) you seem to be a very friendly community and willing to help. This is great. After I get home I'm gonna test LL 2.8 a little bit and probably (highly likely actually ;D ) I'm gonna be around looking for help again because I started messing with Linux only a couple of days ago. And it looks very different from what I'm used to. Thanks again you all and have a nice day. ![]() |
