Strange problem you've got there. Don't really know what to think.
It's been a few months, but I vaguely remember having problem trying to install LL 2.6 on one of my old test computers (older than yours) that had never posed a problem with prior LL versions. At the time I didn't bother trying to figure out what was wrong and just ended up loading something else on it for testing. With that said, maybe there is something different about LL 2.6 that is causing the problem for you. Try downloading and installing LL version 2.4 instead and see if that one works. If so, you can just upgrade to LL 2.6 afterwards.
