Tried your suggestion. Cut & pasted into terminal; return key and then terminal went staright back to " linuxlite@linuxlite-HP-Compaq-dc7700p-Ultra-slim-Desktop:~$
It did not ask me for password.
I then logged out and logged back on again. Problem still the same
I then shut down , waited and then booted up again. No change.
A nuisance more than a problem. Have run updates etc regularly since the original manifestation and no change
Loathe to back up now as problem would still be there on restoring. So will have to live with it until version 2.8 perhaps or even the "Bite The Bullet" version 3.0
