hi,
i just downloaded linux lite 2.2, this is the first time i'm trying linux. i'm quite excited to learn how it works, tommorow i will fetch myself a newbie guideline from the library.
though, for learning linux, i would like to start with a decently working os.
the installation wasn't really a problem, updating the system was also working, but every additional software i want to install is giving an error, skype cannot be installed (example).
any tips to solve this problem?

greetings,
patrick

problem solved thanks to an amazing forum,
thanks people, tomorow i'll be studying Big Grin

Greetings patrick!,

You sound like me in about 2006 when a friend introduced me to Ubuntu.  I never looked back.  It takes some getting used to after Windoze but well worth it.  Blessings to you,  Don

Hi Patrick, have a look through the Help Manual, it will get you off to a great start. Menu > Favorites > Help Manual.

thanks everyone, the help manual has been taken through.
i just got myself ubuntu unleashed, second edition for ubuntu 7.02.
since i don't have any knowledge of linux, i thought this might be a good start, since linux lite is based on ubuntu.
i'll be guessing to go back to the roots i'll find myself understanding more about linux lite aswell.

greetings,
patrick

Hi Patrick,

Great work! I just wanted to point out that while reading, the 2nd edition is based on Ubuntu 7.04 and Linux Lite 2.2 is based on Ubuntu 14.04. For reference, the 9th edition of the book is based on Ubuntu 14.04. There's nothing wrong with using an older book but keep in mind information in certain sections probably won't match very well.

Hello!

Welcome to Linux Lite. In addition to books, you should be able to find some excellent online resources to help you learn more about Linux. Besides, by the time a book gets published, it's most likely out of date anyway...
