You can open a terminal and type

xfce4-about
a xfce "about" window will pop up and there you can read the version along with some other details.  Also, typing
Code:
xfce4-about --version
will show the version in the terminal, like this

$ xfce4-about --version
xfce4-about 4.12.1 (Xfce 4.12)

Awesome - those commands had me install the 'About XFCE Desktop Environment panel (but gave the exact instructions on how to do so - helpful for new Linux users) ...

BTW, the panel let me know I am running XFCE 4.12  - looking forward to the update!
