I noticed no difference in the computer at all. Jerry has certainly mentioned in the forum that if your computer is working well, don't bother updating the kernel. (If it's a security issue then of course, yes) Which was the reason that an inplace upgrade from 2.6 to 2.8 does not change the kernel. There is still 3 years of support left in the 2.x series. I am sure much more knowledgeable folk will give you a better answer, but for me - I wouldn't bother. Sometimes running newer kernel's on older computers can do strange things.
