Anti Virus Poll - Valtam - 02-06-2016 Should Linux Lite 3.x series have an Anti Virus bundled? I ask this because this OS aims to meet the expectations of Windows users. You're welcome to have your say. Thank you for participating Jerry Re: Anti Virus Poll - avj - 02-06-2016 I personally don't worry about this after using Linux for the last few years. When I first started however it was something I did worry about. I think it would probably be a good option to be able to be added from Lite Software to ease the minds of new users. Re: Anti Virus Poll - Monkeyman - 02-06-2016 I voted "no" because 1) most malicious code is written for Windows (not that Linux can't be zapped but less likely) and 2) unless there's only 1 AV prog available, I'd like to be able to choose which one I want. Re: Anti Virus Poll - Jocklad - 02-06-2016 Have never used anti-virus in Linux in five years. Assuming it would be in lite software then the user has the choice whether to install or not. Dont see a problem. Jocklad Re: Anti Virus Poll - Valtam - 02-06-2016 Good idea avj, I've added a new Poll option. Re: Anti Virus Poll - Coastie - 02-06-2016 I wouldn't use it. Might make new users from Windows nervous if installed by default. Having in Lite Software would be good for paranoid coming from Windows. Re: Anti Virus Poll - LL-user - 02-06-2016 The main question is whether running an AV software is (meanwhile) recommended for an average Linux Lite user. Not whether someone coming from Windows expects this software. IF it's not necessary - I still don't use one - I would rather educate the people who worry than install software that continuously eats up system resources. Therefore: 1. inform/ educate - if appropriate even on the getting started screen 2. offer an AV software via Lite Software My 2c Re: Anti Virus Poll - Monkeyman - 02-06-2016 Since the 3rd option was added after I voted, can my vote be changed to that, please? While I still don't think AV is needed, it would be nice to have it available. Re: Anti Virus Poll - Wirezfree - 02-06-2016 Like @avj I think for peace of mind having it available via Lite Software would be good. If you are in a complete Linux setup, your risk is low, But if you are still in a mixed/dual boot Linux/Windows set-up, you may inadvertently copy something from Linux to Windows, if you have a shared/common data/file area. Re: Anti Virus Poll - ptyerman - 02-06-2016 Made available through Lite Software would be good. It makes it easily accessible for those that want it then. |
