Fail to resume after suspend using lid and other issues
Posted by: majuamst - 09-17-2024, 08:51 PM - Forum: Start up and Shutdown - Replies (18)

I am a brand new user of Linux on a 10 year old laptop with a C-60 AMD GPU. Immediately upon booting, there is a brief message, "0.004051 Common interrupt 1.55 No IRQ handler for vector" that flashes for 10-15 seconds. The computer continues to boot into LinuxLite. I am a longtime Windows user and a brand new Linux user. I am learning to like LinuxLite and have set up this old laptop to do everything the way I want, but I have one very big problem. It will not wake up from suspend. It flashes "no IRQ handler for vector" on several lines of a black screen. The error message disappears too quickly for me to copy and post it accurately for you to see. After the error message, the screen stays blank and never loads my desktop. I have tried to use hibernate instead, but I get another error message indicating that hibernate is not possible. It appears that some IRQs are not being assigned upon boot and after suspend.

I did some internet research and found that this is a known issue with AMD processors. It has something to do with IOMMU. The suggestions include turning IOMMU off in the BIOS, but that option is not provided in the rudimentary BIOS screens of this ACER Aspire One 722. Apparently there is a Linux software solution as well, but they all suggest the BIOS change first.

Sorry for the long post, but I am wondering if someone has experienced this issue and knows how to fix it. I really want to learn Linux on this old laptop and have started tutorials to navigate my way around. As we get closer to Microsoft abandoning Windows 10, I would like to convert all of my networked computers to Linux, but not if I cannot solve these types of problems.

Thank you for being here for beginners like me.

How is Wayland with NVIDIA now?
Posted by: drewdavis - 09-09-2024, 03:22 AM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (2)

I've heard the horror stories of NVIDIA support with Wayland in the past, and I'm wondering if things have improved. I've been unable to find a recent post of the matter. I will be using graphically intensive apps including games, game engines, and modelling apps. How is it with this? Thank you!

Recuring problems while lauchin or quitting Kodi
Posted by: Jean-Marc B - 09-08-2024, 02:41 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (3)

Hi folks,

Here's the situation :

I've got this old laptop under LL 7, connected to my TV. I use it to watch videos with Kodi latest version. Been doing that for a while without any problem.

Recently, I've been having some troubles :

- from time to time Kodi failed to launch after boot (I had automated it) and I got black screen and the computer is all frozen up. Only solution, to shutdown and reboot

- got rid of the automated launching and did it manually... Once again, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't

- moreover, once Kodi's been launched, it either works flawlessy or just quit without notice

- can also freeze the whole computer, with black screen, after quitting. Only solution, to shutdown and reboot, yet again.

I've no idea what's causing this and even less how to fix it. I've been using Kodi for years now, on several Linux distros, on Mac OS and Win, must admit I've never seen it behave so erratically...

Any suggestions ?

Can not log in with old UN/PW
Posted by: LLUser - 08-04-2024, 01:56 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (9)

Hi.
I have been a member of the LL-forum for many years, but after the forum upgrade, I could no longer log in. The old UN/PW was not accepted, and no e-mail was received when I requested a new PW.
I created then a new e-mail account, and logged in with new UN and PW, but did not receive the confirmation e-mail which prevented me from posting anything. Waited a few days, and today I was suddenly able to post this.
Has anyone else experienced same?

  Lite Updates change
Posted by: Valtam - 08-02-2024, 04:38 AM - Forum: Linux Lite Software Development - Replies (10)

The Lite Software package that contains Lite Updates has a new version of Lite Updates. We're now using Yad instead of Zenity. This will put to an end blank windows and other reported bugs. We hope that you like it.

  Moving Servers
Posted by: Valtam - 07-25-2024, 02:50 AM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (5)

So as some will know already, we are out-growing our web server. A new one will be provisioned and setup hopefully within the next 48 hours. We'll get twice the CPU cores and double the space for nearly half the price of the old one. So if you are online and try to access any of our web service like these Forums for example, there may be some downtime (very little I hope).

Thanks everyone. Smile
