please i would like to know why VLC 3.0.9.2 version on Linux Lite? Please i would like to know why VLC 3.0.11 version on Windows? im confuse

I guess 3.0.9.2 is the version that ships with ubuntu 20.04 which is LL5's base. VLC updates for ubuntu can take a long time. So you might have to wait some more to get 3.0.11. There is probably a PPA or something to get the newest version faster.


But adding PPAs is not recommended as these are the main reason for errors during updates


Also: Is there such a big diff between 3.0.9.2 and 3.0.11. that make an update necessary?

Hi,

It could just be that different teams work on the different OS Builds.
Sometimes builds are not even related, like (older?) Office suites on Mac Vs PC.
Alttough the differences have diminisshed over the past years. But still, sometimes you have specific needs on different platforms and programmers cannot know everything or have the time to develop versions for every platform they'd like.
In this case, for example, Windows uses DirectX for multimedia/games, which is not on Linux since made my Mikrosooft.
But, in this case VLC is quite modular and usually versions follow each other quite rapidly.

Hi,

I think VLC usually is updated trought the standard updates or the system.
Of course there could be a "developement/nightly builds" more recent, but these usually are considered less stable, break functions, etc.
I usually stay with the standard "stable" releases and is what I recommend... unless a special support of feature is needed.

If everything works with VLC and your media files, keep the default.

Don't fall intot he dangerous trap in Linux that 'I must have the latest'. In Linux we promote stability, in Windows they promote thoughtlessness.

when I face screen tearing problem with video playing .
I config xorg file . but VLC stop working so  I remove VLC and
install Totem player.  works great .
