Hi Guys,
I've recently downloaded a program as a zip file, extracted it OK but I can only run it from commandline. I'd like a desktop shortcut icon for this but have drawn a blank on all my web searches etc. inc on this forum. There are various tutorials for other Linux distros but they all look different & I've no idea which to use. So does anyone know how it's done ? Thanks.

Hi,
Do this:
Menu -> Main Menu -> New Entry -> Create a Menu entry for you program using the same command you would enter in the terminal -> drag and drop the menu entry from the menu to the desktop.
If you get a warning saying its not a trustworthy launcher click "mark as executable".
That's how I do it but I don't use many desktop launchers.

I can't get 'new entry' in main menu. only available options are 'new menu' and 'new item'. i tried new item but no matter what i put in the 'command' box the 'ok' button wouldn't highlight/work.

Yeah 'new item' should be right (I have to guess the English versions from my German system).
What command do you use to launch the program?

program is betaflight configurator, firmware flash/modifier for radio controlled aircraft/copters flgiht controllers. I tried your solution Moltke, & it works just fine. Thanks both for helping out. It's a useful thing to know for Windows convert.
