Skype 4.x for Linux is being dropped on the July 1st by MS.
We're going to take care of this now as we don't want people to be left high and dry. Linux Lite will respond by placing the new 5.x in our repo as there is no word yet from Ubuntu on what they will do.
Info:
- There is as of yet, no 32bit build for Skype 5.x (64bit only)
- If you have 32bit only LL Series 3.x and after 1st July you are left with a function-less Skype, scream at MS > > >
- Available for Linux Lite 3.x Series only
- To get the new version do:
Menu, System, Lite Software (Update Sources), Install > Skype.
The new Skype will show as Menu, Internet, Skype for Linux Beta.
When you start Skype 5.x for the first time, you may get a pop up window asking you to 'unlock' type in your LL user password and click on Unlock.
I believe that there is a 64bit only version for Viber too on Linux. This looks to be a trend so if you use proprietary software from third party vendors, may I suggest you only use 64bit LL from now on and save yourself future headaches.
