Don't want NumLock enabled on login screen
#1
The 3.0 Release Announcement proudly notes, "Numlock - Is enabled at the Login screen." Evidently, some code has been added somewhere to do this. The usual keyboard settings have no influence on this behaviour.

NumLock On makes sense on a desktop keyboard with a separate numeric keypad. On a laptop keyboard, NumLock On can make a mess of your password. For example, the "U" key will emit "4". It only makes sense that by default you want alpha keys to emit alpha characters and numeric keys to emit numerics.

I'd rather not have to hit Fn-NumLk every time I start a session. How can I make sure that on my laptop my session starts with NumLock OFF?

Edit: /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf

Comment out: greeter-setup-script=/usr/bin/numlockx on

FYI - I had problems with this also.

Maybe it can be added to the Install choices, along with nationality of keyboard, etc. ?

A easier way to disable num lock on startup, is,
settings manager > keyboard > untick box - general - Restore num lock state on startup.
Hope that helps Smile

Banko , That unticking did not work for me - logged out and rebooted, confirmed box still unticked but log on still required Fn key to be depressed while adding password.  Once logged on , keyboard performed as set without Fn problems.  Fujitsu V3405 laptop keyboard UK English -  setting = generic 102key(Int) Pc

Update - reinstalled LL3.0 32 bit and managed to get keyboard settings for Fuji Amilo Laptop to take.  Smile However Fn problem remains on login.  Have not tried updated tweaks as yet

Thank you. Opened file as Admin, changed on to off, saved, restarted and works just great.
