Hi,
I have never experienced this situation myself...
But when you get to the GRUB menu is there not an option to select either another kernel to boot or recovery option.??..

Hitting the ESC key while its hanging will show where the system maybe hanging.. Showing the process/portion of boot, its stuck at, may want to give this a try and report back.. It will help pinpoint..
Another you can try is to initiate the advanced start up (the 2nd LL2.8 option on grub menu)..
You can try going thru the process, there are a couple of option - I've had mine hang, just needed to boot to this and use the "restart" (think it was the 1st option) it worked but ultimately you may need to launch with additional functionality (the c or e) - the guru's will need to chime in as that's beyond me :-X
Or as Wirezfree suggests
; is there a previous kernel option
Welcome thou ;D

It depends on how you set-up/use Google.?
You could try to boot Linux Lite Live.
Go into Lite Software and install Chrome.
Open Chrome and Login to Google account.
Then go into Chrome Setting > Advanced Settings > Passwords and Forms
and see if you have anything in the "Manage Passwords"
You may have Sites, User Names and an option to "Show" passwords.
Remember if this works, you are in Live, so you would need to repeat this if you shutdown.

Did you encrypt the install? That's where mine gets and I have to type my encryption password without seeing a place to type it. Once I type it, system boots fine.
Can't tell you how many installs I did thinking I'd messed up.
