Why does Chrome ask for my (GNOME) keyring password?
#1
I Love computers and the problems they cause me . I am seriously thinking of exchanging them for two bricks to bang my head against . Much cheeper and without the frustration using a computer . Every solution to a problem seams to lead to them  having their  own problems - and so on  .

Maybe when they crack the Artificial Intelligent Programming we will get a computer that can  communicate properly between them and us humans and let us know where we are going wrong rater than keeping things secret.

I recently needed to reinstall LL after a Lock out situation (other post)
Now why does Chrome ask for my ( GNOME ? ) keyring  password?) I am sure I got rid of the prompt a long time ago so I have forgotten how.

My understanding is that LL uses Xlce and not Gnome so why do I need a Gnome keyring -  I live alone do I need it anyway on my home system.

What function does it serve as it makes no difference if I Cancel or enter  the password

Can it be defeated or uninstalled using a GUI method

Also as I had no part (knowingly) in its set up I can only guessed it was the same as Sign-in and Administrator one . But as I have already used it to Sign-in why do I need to use it again
What is confusing to this  silver (thick)headed person is ,if there is only one password in the system why don't all the programs that use it call it by the same name .

With regard to the Administrators Password whilst I can see the need in a work environment to  use it every time  it is  needed but I would like it to be remembered for the full session.Sadder but no wiser after a month of toil ,Colin

Hi Colin,

Try this fix straight from the horses mouth:

HI

Thanks for pointing me indirectly to Seahorse -- Passwords and Keys . It helped me sort out my Problem -- I have suggested it should be installed in Lite as there is no GUI program to help people manage their Passwords using a GUI

The method I used was a tweeked version Jerrys  CMD post

f
Quote:Open a terminal, do:

Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install seahorse

Then go to Menu, Settings, Passwords and Keys.
See answer 29 here for the rest of the solution - http://askubuntu.com/questions/867/how-c...ng-on-boot

I installed Seahorse using Synoptic
I found the Umbuntu  answer 29 and followed this part

For Ubuntu 13.10:

Open Applications -> Accessories -> Password and Encryption Keys

Click View -> "By keyring"

Right-click on the "login" keyring - and

Select "Change password"

Enter your old password and leave the new password blank
Press ok, read the security warning, think about it and if you still want to get rid of this dialog, choose "use unsafe storage
Quote:This DID NOT work for me until I had Changed both the LOGIN (as above ) and the DEFAULT KEYS passord in the same method as for the LOGIN

For some reason it refuses to let me preview or post it
