Wifi Adapater finds my network but does not connect
#1
Hi,

Grretings from Rio.

I´m very new to Linux (just installed it). I´m having trouble using WiFi.

I do detect my network (the SSID appears between the available connections), i even enter my password, but that´s it. The system "loops" asking for the password over and over again and does not connect, unless I use the cable.

I´m using Windows 7 right now, because i´m also having trouble with my keyboard when using Linux Lite (but i will leave it to another topic)

My wi fi adapter is Realtek RTL8187B

The notebook is  CCE Win Series ( dont even know if these are sold abroad)

You probably need more than that to help me, right?

Well, I tried. Sorry for the bad English and thanks in advance.

Thought I recognized the usb wireless adapter. It should just be plug and play?

That computer fell of the table and now is cannibalized for parts since I posted that. I am pretty sure I posted using that same usb wifi piece of gear on this forum also. But cannot find it.

I uninstalled network-manager myself and went with wicd-gtk instead. But I am probably the only member who does this on Linux-Lite.

Code:
$ apt-cache policy wicd-gtk
wicd-gtk:
  Installed: 1.7.2.4-4.1ubuntu1
  Candidate: 1.7.2.4-4.1ubuntu1
  Version table:
*** 1.7.2.4-4.1ubuntu1 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/universe i386 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
$ apt-cache policy network-manager
network-manager:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 0.9.8.8-0ubuntu7.1
  Version table:
     0.9.8.8-0ubuntu7.1 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty-updates/main i386 Packages
        500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty-security/main i386 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     0.9.8.8-0ubuntu7 0

Something is wrong with your network-manager setup and install. So my 1st question is.

Did you md5sum check the downloaded linux-lite iso before installing it? The md5sum number is at the download site for a reason. And should be used to eliminate ghost in the machine problems like you describe. Because that usb dongle should just connect and go.
