Installing updates hangs at /steam translation en during list collection phase

LL2.4 32 bit, std kernel on HPdc7700 desktop.  Been running 2.4  since update and previous versions LL.  Alll has been working well enough until recently.  Suddenly unable to complate install updates  During the update list phase at the beginning, always hangs at /steam translation en and then  grey box comes up saying could not get updates list.

Any ideas a) what has changed , and  b) how to get round problem - Use Terminal ??  Thanks

BTW various laptops on LL2.4 32 bit also hesitate at the same point of update but then recover and complete.

So at some stage you've installed the plaxx ppa, this is your issue. What programs did you install from there and are they still installed.

I have been trying to  install a usable version of get-iplayer  The version on synaptic is out of date- no longer works.  Therefore  recently followed links from this forum to get version 2.92 and a GUI - Still could not get these to work.  Presume this is where  plaxx came from ?
UPDATE  - updated today from 2.92 to 2.94 Get_iplayer via synaptic - Get-iplayer now working   However install updates via menu still hanging on collecting list .. How do I identify which program is using the plaxx? sio that I can delete it etc. Tks

According to this, http://ppa.launchpad.net/plaxx/random-fi...6/Packages,

this PPA has to do with power management.

You can most likely just remove the PPA in Menu > System > Install/Remove Software (Synaptic) > Settings > Updates > Other Software.

Just uncheck this particular PPA, and life goes on...
