Indicator Weather - An Alternative to XFCE-Weather-Plugin/My-Weather-Indicator

Hello!

I usually use my-weather-indicator as a weather applet, but for some reason, it doesn't seem to want to work properly on my Dell netbook. Therefore, I had to find, install and use another weather applet - Indicator Weather.

Indicator Weather has a dependency that must be installed first - Python Weather API, or pywapi for short.

The pywapi .deb file can be found here: https://launchpad.net/python-weather-api/+download

After pywapi is installed, Indicator Weather can be found here: https://launchpad.net/weather-indicator

GDebi will install both of these.

Based on your previous recommendation, I installed My-Weather-Indicator because of problems with the XFCE weather indicator. It is working fine. 

Is Indicator Weather one any better or different? Different weather sources?

For the overwhelming percentage of the time, it works great for me. also. Don't get me wrong; on every other 'puter I have, I use My Weather Indicator. I posted this because i have one netbook that doesn't want to run My Weather Indicator properly. As a result,  I propose this as a possible solution for others who may also need a third alternative

Not necessarily better. They're just a little different, but not much. The newest version of Indicator Weather came out in early 2014; nonetheless, I am uncertain whether or not it is still in active development.

Different weather sources?

Yes, different sources, one of them is weather.com (The Weather Channel?), and I THINK Yahoo is the other one it uses...

8)  Surprised myself and installed it without using Synaptic using GDebi Package Installer. I like this Indicator Weather better because it uses weather.com a.k.a.The Weather Channel which is my prime source for weather forecasts. (Yahoo is the other one it uses.)

i use it too. But there is a diff in temp, yahoo says its 7 C here and weather.com says its just 5 C. Also the forecast is just for 5 days including today, could have been a bit longer.

I tried that one but it doesnt save my settings. I have to change them everytime after a reboot

Hello!

As for the temperature difference, I also get different readings, based on the weather reporting service I select. it could just be a difference of exactly where the temperature reading was taken from, or how long ago the readings were updated. In My Weather Indicator, I set it to update every 15 minutes.

All the local TV/radio stations here always predict differently about what the high and low temperature will be that day, despite they all are using the same data (U.S. National Weather Service) to base their forecasts on. Other factors apply if you are in a suburb of a major city that the weather apps support, or if you have to select the city nearest to you, because the city you need to set doesn't appear on the list of cities to select...
