O.K... See if he comes back with the format info.
Seems a pity to take a step-back to Windows.

Some people just don't have the same patience that we have. I know because my wife is very impatient, especially with technology. Lol

I remember back to early this year, I got frustrated...
Some things just didn't seam to make sense...
Slowly, and with the help of various forum members
I'm now at the tweaking and tinkering stage.

I do have a WiFi issue on my Laptop...
I will get round to fixing at some stage.

Thanks for your replies – I guess I am impatient with Linux as I am used to Windows where I can place a CD in the drive or extract a file from ext hd and hey presto, it plays! Most of my audio files are WMA which I thought would be converted by Clementine.
Speaking of which, I managed to fumble my way through installing Clementine (haven't a clue how) and what do I get? Another error message which reads “The stream is encrypted and decryption is not supported”.
I reckon the only solution is to give up as I have a life to live which does not involve sitting on my can mucking about with Linux until it finally works. If it doesn't do things from the outset then it ain't worth the bother.
Regards to all
ps – Bill Gates is a genius and deserves to be a billionaire several times over.

John,

While I do understand your frustrations it's important to note the following:
  • Linux and distributions such as LL are often made by people who are volunteering time and money to make a free OS. For the most part there is not a massive company such as Microsoft funding the development.
  • For what it's worth, your specific issue is likely due to files with DRM (digital rights management) which is not the fault of Linux. In fact it's stuff like that which drives people to contribute to projects like Linux Lite. Your files and software should be controlled by you and not the other way around.
  • Bill Gates' first versions of Windows had bugs too. It's not until many people worked together that it became more reliable and easy to use. The same goes for Linux. I guess what I'm saying is that Windows and Linux would not be what they are today without the contributions of many people. You can't give Bill all the credit.

Anyhow, your mind is obviously set however I wish you well in whatever OS you choose to use.

Find it weird , WMA files are supported by VLC , it might have to do  with some missing codecs .

I can understand your frustrations , been the same when I came on Linux some 8 years ago . I have time now to fool around on Linux , which might not be the case for everyone & it s understandable .

altman, please see my response above. The files are probably protected by DRM.
