I would like to add the following:
Notepad/wordpad: Geany
Video conversion: Handbrake
MP3 tagging: Puddletag
Most Windows apps can be replaced by similar/better ones on Linux. The only exception I ran into with a generic app (excluding things like Fidelity brokerage app, etc.) is Quicken. It is the only app for which I maintain a Windows virtual machine as the 2014 version does not work under Wine, and I have tried all the alternatives.

I'll second that. Very nice, Bitsnpcs!
Noticed one obvious choice missing under CD/DVD burning software -- xfburn. What, you don't like the one that comes standard on LL or something? Just kidding.

Hello gold_finger,
well spotted, it is important for new and existing community members to know there is a burn program included in LL

Hi,
I was a Quicken user for @ 12 years,
I moved to ACE Money(Mechad) in 2009,
Never looked back, and it runs fine in Wine.
Not yet started looking at "Linux" Finance apps.

Hello,
I have added a new alternative to the list today, 'gLabels'.
I installed it via the Synaptic package manager. The link is to the main page.
gLabels is a program for making up labels and business cards.
You can make and add your custom QRCode to your labels or cards with what ever information you wish embedded into that, such as website url, email address, phone numbers etc.
It can also do cd and dvd labels.

Another addition for AutoCAD replacement should be FreeCAD
Also, I would like to suggest that where there are several Windows apps with identical list of replacement apps, they should be combined into a single line to reduce the length of the list (e.g. MS Access / dBase, uTorrent / Azureus, etc.).
