As a result of installing an update a handful of days ago, I now have to use a password to log into my account. Would any of you know if there's a default password for non-admin users? If there is please let me know. If there is not please tell me how without the use of another computer I can reinstall Linux light.

Quote:As a result of installing an update a handful of days ago, I now have to use a password to log into my account That's a bit odd. Do you have any applications installed that might do something like this ? It is typical that logging on to the desktop requires a valid Username/password combination for security reasons. For convenience, it is possible to set Linux Lite to 'enable auto login' to remove the requirements to enter user credentials so it may be worth trying this. Click Menu Begin to type in "Lite Auto Login" When you see the option for Lite Auto Login offered click on it Click on 'Enable Auto Login' You will need to enter your user password here as it is a system change. Read and the warning and if you want to go ahead click the Enable button. There should be a message that the change has been made. Close the chooser window and restart. Quote:Would any of you know if there's a default password for non-admin users?Don't think there is - it would be a very bad thing if there was. Quote:please tell me how without the use of another computer I can reinstall Linux light. That is possible but is drastic unless there is something else wrong. The help manual describes installation.

I tried typing " auto log in" to Other, but for this to work I need a password. Here is a screenshot of what I'm dealing with:
https://photos.app.goo.gl/kLaLgXp1yXFqQ56c6 This is the screenshot for each option without password: https://photos.app.goo.gl/FooRswJKsh5XzhvL8 Admin option Oddly enough, using the same password to log in differs from the admin password I used to make system changes. I have no idea how to use netdata or "other".

Sorry, I'm a bit confused.
Let the system boot up to the normal GUI logon window. Choose your normal username from the pull down in the user name option. If your usual username isn't shown on the pull down, click 'Other...' and then type in your usual username. Enter your normal password into the password box. Click the 'Log In' button Then post back with exactly what happens.

Were you unable to open the links that I posted in the previous message dated June 14th? Or did they just not load the photos that I included.
If I try logging into KLinux-Lite, then I receive "Password invalid, please try again".

If you are 100% sure that you are correctly typing the correct password and have checked for inadvertent keyboard issues (like Num Lock, Caps Lock, region settings) then, it is possible to attempt to reset the password.
Reset instructions are widely available for example at https://itsfoss.com/how-to-hack-ubuntu-password/

I was able to change the password to a temp one: abc123. Then when I use it at the login, it flashes black. Next I return to the login screen. Is there a,way of accessing the set parameters page to enable auto log on?

At the GUI login instead of entering password press three keys together - CTRL and ALT and F2.
This should switch to a non GUI terminal style login. At the 'machinename login:' prompt type normal username (this will be echoed) followed by return. At the 'Password:' prompt type normal password (won't be echoed) followed by return. Failure to log in to the terminal means something is wrong with login credentials, but it may give a clue. Successful log in to the terminal proves the credentials are valid and you can run diagnostic commands from the terminal. For example, to diagnose the GUI start up, run Code: startx

I was able to log into Linux with the hack you provided. However, I am still going to reinstall Linux Lite, because taking screenshots and sending them is exacerbating my osteoarthritis. I am unable to commit the error messages it spits out when I try to use startx.
