problems using npm install in vscode

after typing npm install in my vscode terminal for running a cloned react project i get:

npm ERR! code EPERM

As suggested in the message.. try as admin -- put sudo in front of your command

else become root and try OR ensure the user has access/permissions to the specified folder....

sudo isn't a magic solution there, as preferably you want to be the owner of the directory - so use alternatives - yarn, pnpm, npx, even bun - there's plenty of prudent options. You may have a missing path in your .npmrc ( .profile)
