I would like to know if there is another virus scan tool besides clamav that is easier to use? I use Malwarebytes on the Windows side and it is easy to use and configure, is there anything similar for Linux Lite?

You can poke around other similar posts for Anti Virus...

1st so you know this will be a can of worms question -- cause Linux is more secure than Windows firstly...
2nd Antivirus and Malware(adaware etc) scanners may be combined but are at times different applications.
In this case, ClamAV is antivirus (i.e. Norton/McAfee/AVG) and Malwarebytes is Malware scanner....
In Windows I would use BOTH...
Now whether or not you need one...
My 2 cents are something is better than nothing... A decent firewall (even the software one in LL is fine) for sure.
On my Windows I run both and scan on schedule...
On my Linux 1 out of the 4 has ClamAV installed, the one that would do any random downloading, I may scan as needed/wanted. And any Chromebooks (also Linux kernel) don't have anything.

I appreciate the information on ClamAV, and I've been using Malwarebytes for several years now on Windows 7 HP for obvious reasons. I must assume that ClamAV can only be used from the command line, also I am still in the beginning stage of learning how the firewall works in LL. My setup is LL installed along side W7HP on a 350 GB hdd giving both OS' the same amount of space for now until I get more comfortable with LL. I've been using Libre Office since the beginning on this machine and have used FireFox and other open source software for decades on other machines in our office. Thanks for helping out a new guy.

If you haven't give the manual a read over - yes its terminal based but the instruction is spot on.

Once you've set it up.. it then becomes an update and run..
Update:
Run:
Code:
sudo clamscan -r -i /PATH_of_SCAN | grep FOUND >> /home/YOURUSER/virus-scan-report.txt
As long as no errors present.
Personally - I scan my home directory, as this is where downloads go... you can do root (/) but you may want to add exclusions i.e. for TimeShift (backup) directory...

I appreciate the information and I will make sure to give it a look, and from now on I will only scan the home directory as I'm sure it won't take as long to complete. Have a great day.
