Installing LL 5.0 without Grub but refind from Windows 10
#1
Hello,

I tried to installed on one of the 2 laptops I own LL50 and installed also refind from Windows 10.
- Refind works well
but
when I choose "Ubuntu" which is the label of LL for boot, It opens on GRUB which proposes also to all the OS I Have on my computer.
I made a search and I found on a Ubuntu forum how to leave Grub and I applied on my LL.
However,
when I launch LL vie Refind, it searches Grub without success and I cannot launch LL !

First Question :
- How to modify the Refind config File in order to be able to launch LL ?

Second question :
- on my second computer, how to install LL without GRUB ? By not creating a EFI partition ?

Both replies are important to me.

Hoping to read you soon

[member=25310]MarcDriver[/member] it maybe refind??
If you have secure boot disabled and install as per the manual it should work as normal when using Ubuntu from the default windows manager, I believe this is what you see, else set ubuntu in boot options in 'bios'...

If everything works as it should then you could try refind...
You'll need a boot loader, grub, to use LL...

You can change how long grub is displayed if you prefer not to see it...

Maybe some ideas????

Hello,

Quote:If you have secure boot disabled

Yes, I have.

Quote:install as per the manual it should work as normal when using Ubuntu

Installation was OK.

Quote:...from the default windows manager, I believe this is what you see, else set ubuntu in boot options in 'bios'...

This worked also but if I choose UBUNTU, GRUB appears… this not useful.

Quote:If everything works as it should then you could try Refind...

I have installed Refind as you can read in my previous post but I have the same problem that GRUB appears when I choose UBUNTU.
It is why I have uninstalled GRUB and why I have the problem that REFIND searches for GRUB !
I wonder which line I have to write in refind.conf to achieve to start UBUNTU directly from REFIND without GRUB.

This leads to my two previous questions :

First Question :
- How to modify the Refind config File in order to be able to launch LL ?

Second question :
- on my second computer, how to install LL without GRUB ? By not creating a EFI partition ?

Both replies are important to me.

I haven't used refind... And upside is LL installs and works as normal, you may want to reach out to the DEVs at refind for assistance....
