Linux Lite 5.0 RC1 Released
#71
Bug found, need confirmation please.

Menu, Accessories, Fonts - may crash or freeze first time, then maybe do the same the next 1 or 2 times. Can take a while to eventually load. Appears to settle after that.

First time accessed: appeared to start and display fonts then window disappeared (presume a crash)
Subsequently: appeared to start and work as normally I would expect a fonts utility to work

Aside: noticed some apparent duplicate fonts (e.g. Cambria, Comic Sans) - has rationalisation been considered?

[member=6968]WytWun[/member] thanks for the report. As for 'duplicates' if it were a problem in eg. LibreOffice Word, I'd address it. One of each is displayed in Office. Like software, there are different revisions of fonts, one could be from 2016, the other from 2019. I'll go through them on a rainy day and remove the older ones, at the moment a few 100kb with not have an adverse affect on the system, as such it's not a priority. That's the current rationalisation.

1st time - crash
2nd time - freeze
3rd time - crash
4th time - Seems to be fine.
After a reboot, it froze the 1st time and worked the second.

Yes it will since it is still supported. It is likely that in the 5.2 release, it will be removed.

Will this release support ZFS just like Ubuntu does?

Yes, but ZFS is for servers. You won't need it on a home pc.

Does the installer support it or do I have to install it after? I'd like to get root on ZFS too (this is what I had to do for 18.04 which is a lot of manual steps: https://openzfs.github.io/openzfs-docs/G...20ZFS.html)

I find it very useful on a laptop to take snapshots (plus Ubuntu now can take snapshots before installing packages for easy rollback, via zsys: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2020/03/...anagement/)
It is also useful to send laptop *incremental* backups (snapshots) to a ZFS server (using zfs send|receive).
True these are advanced features but they are very useful if familiar with ZFS (I've been using it for over 6 yrs).

My advice is to get this RC and see if it does what you expect it to. Then report back to me with the results. But you'll have to be quick, we release in 2 days Smile
