I am trying to migrate from Windows 7.  I tried transferring my Firefox profile I was using with W7.  I renamed the default profile and inserted my profile. That did not work, I also tried deleting the installed profile and inserted mine and an error came up that it could not access the profile.

I also cannot import my old bookmarks.  I exported them to an HTML file and put them on a USB stick.  I used Firefox's import tool and nothing was found.  I put the HTML file on my desktop and I could open it and open the links inside, but would really like to have them transferred.  I am sure I used the prescribed way of doing this so I am at a loss as to why it does not work here.

I am in the process of setting up Firefox Sync to see if that will work.

Not done it myself as I've been using linux for quite a few years, but maybe this can help.

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Moving_from_Windows_to_Linux

It suggests that simply copying your windows profile over the linux profile in .mozilla/firefox  in your home directory should work. (N.B. the .mozilla means it's a hidden folder so you will need to click on View on the menu bar and enable show hidden files )

Hope it helps Smile

Firefox sync is great. :-)

Sadly Mozilla are forcing you to use sync by making profiles 'per installation' so you can no longer copy your old profile between different installs.

However, with Firefox-ESR you still can. The only caveat is that in your .mozilla folder you need to rename firefox to firefox-esr

I use the mozillateam ppa for ESR.

The other option would be to locate a firefox deb for 68.xxx and install that, then update to the latest.

All the sync did was copy over a couple of my addons.  I can get my bookmarks to install and view with the current Lite session, but they need to be reinstalled on every reboot.  I get NO conformation that they are installed, they are just there and usable for the entire time I am logged on.  Any way to get these to stick.

I will try and deal with the profile later.

I am fairly proficient with Windows, but am a total Newbie with Linux so please try and dumb down any replies.  Thanks

Try this; right-click on the HTML file and from the context menu select open with firefox, once the file is loaded you could open the links one at a time and then bookmark them and maybe they stick throught sessions, this works on chromium don't know if it does in FF but I don't see why it shouldn't, in any case, I think it's worth a try.

Hope this helps! Smile

[member=11699]LarryB1607[/member] ,

I thought when you created a Firefox account and logged into Firefox on another device, your bookmarks would follow you.

Firefox>Bookmarks>Show All Bookmarks>Import and Export>Import from HTML should do the trick. You may find them nested under one sub menu afterwards so they may need to be re-organised.

It is time to move to brave
Looks secure to me but I have no insider idea
Is it safe to use Chromium on LL ? I mean it is there but not really updated? Is it still owned by Google?
