Hello from Leicestershire, UK
#1
I am a semi-retired computer consultant (mainly fixing local computer and Internet problems) and both a heavy user and promoter of FOSS. Linux (mainly Ubuntu flavours) has been my main system for years. I use it for office functions and desk top publishing (for our village magazine) as well as for client computer trouble shooting. I am not very keen on the Ubuntu Unity interface and tend to either install LXDE on top or go straight to Lubuntu. I like Lubuntu but always ditch Abiword due to problems with some documents and install LibreOffice (not perfect but neither is the M$ equivalent!). Linux Lite seems to fit the bill in terms of interface and default programs so I am trying out on my wife (as a replacement for XP) first!

I do use Raspberry Pi hardware for serving websites and for our domestic NAS, both based on Raspian. LL for Raspberry Pi, anyone?
Desktop: Running LL5 on second HD in ACEPC model MK1: "Mini PC 4GB RAM 64GB ROM Windows 10 Celeron J3455 Processor Mini Computer Dual HDMI, Support mSATA / 2.5 inches SSD/HDD 4K, Dual Band WiFi, Gigabit Ethernet, USB 3.0". Don't normally use the supplied W10. Also use LL on netbook (Using xrandr to "expand" the screen) and various old laptops. NAS drive and web server hosted by Raspberry Pi's.

Hi Richard B,

Welcome aboard. As for the Raspberry Pi, please take a look at this post https://www.freecinema2022.gq/forums/index...opic=834.0, I think they are pretty much similar but please post back if you have any questions.

It's doubtful we'll do a Raspberry Pi of LL, we just don't have the resources for it at the moment. Someone is more than welcome to create one and I am more than willing to give them what they need for it.

Thanks. I quite understand. You have done an amazing job (alone?) with LL on x86 and best if you can stick with developing and supporting that. It should be up to others to do a port to ARM hardware, which I think will develop a significant presence in desktop systems.

No. I have not done this before but have thought about it for linux mint and now I want to do it for linux lite. I have a good understanding of how to do it. (I've ported x64/86 programs to ARM)

There's no 'source code' for an OS. Your best bet is to build the OS making sure to hang on to the theming and most of the programs. You would of course substitute some, eg. replace Thunderbird with a lighter application with equal functionality. It still has to look and feel like LL. Will watch with interest and can help with direction. Start with the core, add the lighter apps that we provide, then the main apps, keep LibreOffice, VLC, Gparted etc. If it's good enough, will certainly consider it as an official version of LL Wink
