Lite Control Center is back!
#1

Hi all,

I've spent few weeks working on giving back to the Lite community an application that has been asked for over and over again; Lite Control Center. So that you can once again enjoy from the Lite Control Center if you’re within those who missed it for so long.

Installing Lite Control Center from UnlockForUs Repository

It is also possible to install Lite Control Center without using the UnlockMe app. Just copy and paste the following commands in a Terminal:

Code:
~$ echo "deb https://unlockforus.com/repository/dists/xenial/ /" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/unlockforus-xenial.list
~$ curl -s https://unlockforus.com/repository/keyFile | sudo apt-key add -
~$ sudo apt update
~$ sudo apt install lite-controlcenter

The revamped application should be fully functional in Linux Lite 3.x up to 3.8, for both, 32 and 64 Bit versions.  There are some new features (and others to come) that makes from the revived Lite Control Center a cool new version.

For more details, including installation instructions, see: https://unlockforus.com/linux-lite-control-center/

Please not that this is not an officially distributed Linux Lite application anymore but I will maintain it to the best of my abilities as time allows.

Enjoy your beloved Lite Control Center!

Cheers!

I just pushed a package update that allows users to remove UnlockMe modules from Lite Control Center if UnlockMe is not installed or users don't want to install it at any point.

That will yield a cleaner UI with no need to have non-functional buttons in Lite Control Center  Smile

And don't worry if you want those modules back if at some point you decide to install the UnlockMe app... There is a tweak included to restore those options in lite Control Center  ;D

I never used Linux Lite before 3.4 (or was it 3.6?), so I never saw the Lite Control Center before I took this resurrected and enhanced version for a spin.  Very nice little all-in-one tool!  Good for newbies, kids, grandparents, and technophobes.  Thanks, Ralphy!

I liked the Lite control center when it was introduced back in series 2. I think it was introduced back in LL 2.4, or 2.6, but it could be installed on any series 2 using synaptic. When series 4 comes out this summer this will be one of the first things I install. As mentioned, this is great for newer users.

The next update will bring some some css fixes, NTFS Configuration Tool will execute under pkexec instead of gksu so that it can be executed from non admin accounts with proper elevation and the sidebar icons will be refreshed... instead of 16px icons it will feature 20px icons (which is a little easier on the eyes) and a new set of them.

Is it possible to add 'lite tweaks' under the 'system' tab? It was in the original 'control center'. But if not, thank you anyway.

Note taken. I was under the impression that it was there all along but it isn't.

We are certainly not constrained in usable space now since the window can be maximized. I'm also planning on unifying Enable Auto Login and Disable Auto Login buttons. I think it would be better to have a single button for those two modules. It makes sense to launch the only ONE possible option each time the button is pressed. Saves users roundtrip clicks and makes it easier to follow.

I think "Lite User Manager" should also be executed under pkexec. Just noticed that it can't run under non admin accounts to modify users groups without having to be running under a sudoer account.

So, for sudoers it will still run as the user with pkexec and for non admins accounts it will prompt for a sudoer username and password and run as super user (root).

Another alternative is to replace "Lite User Manager" with "Users and Groups" in Lite Control Center. "Users and Groups" allows for elevation at running time:

My concern is that "Lite User Manager" might be easier to work with than "Users and Groups" for new users, hence replacing "Lite User Manager" with "Users and Groups" may not be a better solution after all; which brings us back to square 1: Running Lite User Manager under pkexec.

Anyone?
