Linux Lite Future

Hi guys,
I don't know if this is a weird question but I'm curious if Jerry and the team have long-term ambitions or goals that they can share with us.  As a relatively new but big fan of Linux Lite I would like more users to try this distro and embrace it. I'd like to see it's ranking rise on distrowatch.

Another weird question along those lines...  I don't know how the development teams of all these distros operate but I was wondering if smaller but similar distros ever merged to compete with larger distros. For example, (not that I want anything about LL to change at all) could there ever come a day when Linux Lite and Xubuntu merge?  DISCLAMER- I know almost nothing about Xubuntu other than it's based on Ubuntu and uses the xfce desktop.

This is not an ambitious OS. Our ongoing goal is to show Windows users that Linux is not the hard OS they thought or heard it was. We're here to dispel myths. I'm also not interested in rankings or competing or merging with other OS's. We are purely focused on helping Windows people transition as simply as we can. This is ongoing, a work in progress.

I think I would add that Linux Lite is aimed at keeping older, modest hardware running rather than tossing away a perfectly good machine just because it's not upgradable to the demands of big, resource-hungry operating systems like Windows 10

Also correct.

Having said that, I'm preparing for lots of hate mail when we drop 32bit next year  :-\

The fact that Ubuntu, which Linux Lite is based on, is dropping 32-bit support is hardly your fault. The amount of coding required from the kernel on up is staggering. It's also worth mentioning that any computer made after 2009 will support a 64-bit OS. For those people I would suggest getting a little more memory. If the computer is at least dual core, you're good to go. I have an older HP with a less than 2.0MHz processor, but I put 4gb. of memory in it. That computer is running a 64-bit Linux OS. No problems at all. For super-old computers 32-bit Linux Lite series 3 is supported until 2021. So people still have options.

I did my annual year end "run thru the distros" and still haven't found a better one.
But then I'm comparing them all the Lite.
I have a 2008 Acer 32bit that Lite has kept running for a bunch of years.
Guess it's time to upgrade to a 64.
With this advance warning I'll have time to shop.
I'll watch for a newer laptop.... and when it's up and running.... it'll be runnin' Lite.
Not bad for a 72 year old, huh?

Jerry and the team are doing a great job doing exactly that. 

Some of us are former Mac, Windows, and OS2 users that even after we sampled other Linux distros once we found Linux Lite there is no reason to leave after years of using Linux Lite. Some of the so called "advanced users" distros have more problems than they are worth. Can't beat keeping it "Simple, Fast, Free."  8)

Currently 50% of registrations on the database are using 32bit Jerry.  That is a LOT of newbies to cast adrift because of what an OS provider (UBUNTU) has dictated is obsolete.

The decision of course is yours, but I believe it would be a let down on what you have started. 

I would encourage you to look at starting a Debian 32bit fork of LL..  so the good work can continue for older, but still functioning, hardware.

My 2Cs worth.

BTW,  out of interest I recently tried a full install of ANTIX on my 32bit Fuji and found it nowhere as intuitive as LL.

My uneducated response to that idea is that a second fork or changing to a Debian base would be a tremendous amount of work for Jerry and his team. Some times you just have to realize you have to replace a 32 bit computer with a new or used 64 bit computer.

Just wondering, why was originally Ubuntu instead of Debian chosen for the base of Linux Lite?
