Can you “test” LL from USB on a computer with a virus?

I use both Russian and Chinese software.
I am happy Ubuntu are not xenophobic, and have many Chinese staff around the world who participate with their peers from a diverse range of ethnic backgrounds and nations, which I hope includes Russian Staff too, in the project aspects sent downstream.

My suggestion is to use what works and base it on that alone.
As otherwise you will not find one suitable, because most nations have security, police and military services doing their jobs daily.
Whether we like every aspect of that fact or not, it is a fact.

Thanks to all,
I will stick with what I know and have used successfully, thanks for the info and support making me comfortable to do this.  Given my lack of computer knowledge and experience I believe this is the safest route.

I will liaise with the youth tomorrow and work on his laptop following our meeting.??

I agree, DBan is one of the best ways if you can wipe the hard drive. And since you mentioned Windows XP, I would not want to "save" it. It's slow, old and not supported anymore.
If you need to keep data tough, I used Avira Rescue CD to save people from some nightmares a few times, but it's been a while since I used it. Last years infections where ramsomwares and encrypted the data itself Sad
Backups... don't leave the house wihout them! Wink
