Centering all windows in XFCE
#1
Just installed it and I really like LL so far. Doing my customizations now and among other things I would like to open my windows right in the center of the screen. There must be some config file and a code to paste.

Hello forneus,

task 1 -

Menu>All>Window Manager Tweaks

Select Tab "Placement"
Tick Radio button "At the center of the screen"
Click "Close" button

Task 2 -

Experimental ( I haven't tried it), if you also want the windows to overlay each other and not fill up the entire screen.
Menu>All>Window Manager
Advanced tab
"Windows Snapping", tick box "to other windows"
click close

If it doesn't overlay return to Menu>All>Window Manager
Advanced tab
"Windows Snapping" and  remove tick "to other windows"

Thanks for the tip, bitsnpcs. Tried the Placement Tab - all windows centered except Thunar file manager and a terminal (both are priority applications). Any ideas?

SOLVED. The slider on the Minimum size of windows to trigger smart placement has to be all the way to the right ("large"). Not really sure what that means, but it works.  Wink

The terminal you use geometry settings to alter its x,y , I am unsure which file needs editing.
It will need one of the advanced Linux users to answer it.

Edit -
Good to see you have solve it how you prefer Smile

I was thinking first about some xml file to be edited. Like in this tutorial for LXDE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8BSa4wKkXs (start watching from 13:00 min). Not sure how that would work for XFCE. But now that I see an easier soluion there is no need for copy-paste coding, I guess.

Hi [member=7149]forneus[/member] and @bitnpcs

I was working yesterday and missed this. To make all windows including Thunar and LXterminal load in the center of the screen: >Menu>Settings>Settings Manager>Windows Manager Tweaks>Placement> Tick the >At the center of the screen box >move the slider all the way to the right >Large. All your windows will then load in the center of the screen.
