Actually one of my main reasons for keeping a Windows install was for updating Go-Pro camera equipment.
It may be possible on Linux...dont know.....never really looked into it.
I looked after the Go-Pro equipment for an elderly friend.
He sadly passed away a few weeks ago.

Another good reason to have Windows is to update the BIOS of some computers. But I don't think I'll install it just to do that.
Sorry to hear about your friend.

My Sat Nav apparently runs on linux

However the map updates and speed trap maps have to be updated via a windows app that refused to run on WINE. How frustrating is that!!

Jocklad - I issue you a challenge. I understand there may still be applications that you need on Windows 7. Can you go one month without using Windows?
Been having a good think about this.
The question is....Do I still need Windows.....?.
And the answer has to be .....No.
So I have removed Windows 7 and Windows 10 from two desktops.
These have been replaced with Archmerge and Mx 16.
My other desktop will of course remain on Linux Lite 3.6.
I have not wiped the Windows drives..........Yet.
Its now all Linux.

Just had a nice thought.
Wont need Malwarebytes Premium anymore.
That saves £60 a year

Tell me about it. I've got 3 Kaspersky licenses and a year left on an MS refurb license. The people I really feel for are the ones who upgraded to Windows 10 a year or so ago, and then got notified a few months ago that their hardware is no longer supported. It's like; "Here let me help you upgrade," and then; "We're sorry but now we don't wanna waste our time on your old hardware. Good luck with your stuff." I was working as a tech consultant for a very big global company when Windows 95 came out, and the whole company decided to switch from IBM mainframe and workstations, to PCs. They already had Windows 3.1 PCs in the marketing department but everything else was mainframe and workstations. The engineering department was a disaster for three years. I visited them in 2005 and they still had two PCs stashed in the engineering department running Windows 3.1 for viewing old technical advisories that never got converted beyond 3.1, literally millions of pages. Everything happens faster in the computing industry including obsolescence. Living without MS is a rewarding goal.
