Unwanted and unusual dialog box when opening download folder
#1
Hi everyone! Hope you're all having a nice life! I need some help here. From a couple of days ago whenever I download something and click on "open folder" in i.e Firefox download catalog, a dialog box shows asking for my password and if I do type it in it starts to update sources but folder never opens. I don't know why this is happening. Check this screenshot I took, it's in Spanish cause it's my language but it says something like:"introduce your password to perform administrative tasks. The app <</usr/scripts/update-gui'/home-moltke/Downloads>> allows you to modify essentials parts of your system".  I don't know why this is happening, so please, a little help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance for your answers! Smile

Hey Moltke,

Whatever you're downloading is something that is attempting to install to your system. Right click the mouse over the folder and select a specific application to open the folder, like leafpad, or archive mangager.

Well, it happens with anything I download; videos, documents, anything! I installed pcmanfm and made it the default file manager, I changed it back to thunar but the issue persist. I'll uninstall pcmanfm and see it that works. By the way, I forgot to mention but it all started when I installed cairo dock which I already got rid of because of it. I thought it'd been solved but it's not Sad
added: Nope, didn't work, issue persist. I used synaptics to uninstall stuff, and while I was at it I ran a search for "cairo" and it delivered some results, so I have some cairo stuff in my system. Should I get rid of those?
Added: I just realized that it only happens in Firefox. I just tried in Opera and everything works as it is supposed to. So this might be a Firefox related issue  :o

Rename ~/.mozilla / firefox  folder and start over. You probably borked/fubared that folder.

Sounds like browser malware.

Shut down firefox before renaming that folder. I'd name it ~/.mozilla/firefox_malware.old
LL 3.6,2.8
Dell XT2 > Touchscreen Laptop
Dell 755 > Desktop
Acer 150 > Desktop
I am who I am. Your approval is not needed.

1) Off the top of my head I know there is some cairo stuff in the lua script for the LL widget. I'd leave that for now.
2) You can have network sharing issues with setting up pcmanfm in LL.
3) Check what you have enabled in >Session and Startup make sure Thunar browsing performance and user folder update are still enabled.

Hi [member=494]rokytnji[/member]
I did the renaming thing but it didn't work, so I decided to get rid of Firefox, I wasn't using it that much anyway since I'm really enjoying Opera Smile maybe I'll install it again. Thanks for taking the time to answer!

Hi [member=5916]trinidad[/member]
Yeah well, I didn't touch any of the Cairo stuff cause I wasn't sure whether it was safe or not to do so. I did uninstall pcmanfm but the issue persisted. I got rid of Firefox since the issue seemed to be only with it. For now, it seems everything works the way it's supposed to. Smile Thanks for taking the time to answer! I guess now I'll have to create a new restore point  :Smile I think I'm marking this as solved.
