Error Upgrading Lite 3.4 to 3.6 64 Bit
#1
Hi
I’m having a problem upgrading from version 3.4 to 3.6, 64 bit only. The 32 bit upgrade worked great. Please know I am not using a proxy and updates is working. Except for using a proxy my issue is the same as WytWun. However his thread was marked as “Solved” But the resolution did not work for me. In that thread my understanding is the resolution is to comment out line 495 of the /user/bin/lite-upgrade-series3 file. I opened the file but the file on my PC has only 470 lines.  When I ran the command “wget -nv -t2 -T1 --ignore-length --max-redirect=1  --spider http://repo.linuxliteos.com/linuxlite/db/version” I get the error”
“wget: unable to resolve host address ‘repo.linuxliteos.com’.  The other wegt and curl commands suggested by ralphy run without errors.

That thread did not say to comment out the line. It said to remove the --no-proxy switch in that line when the issue happens behind a proxy server required to connect to the Internet. By the way, you may have not looked at the correct file; as you can see line 495 does exist.

Hope you get an answer. This is the exact situation I'm in. Still waiting on resolution for me.

Just to be sure, you are Upgrading from 3.4 64bits to 3.6 64bits. right? Wink
Have you done the 3.4 updates before?
I come from the 'doze world so I would suggest to maybe to a cleanup of temp file prior to Upgrade with LiteTweaks or BleachBits.
Also, can you "ping repo.linuxliteos.com" in a terminal or you get the error too?
On windows, there is a command called "ipconfig /flushdns" to purge the DNS resolving cache, maybe similar problem here
if ping does not work... dunno the Linux equivalent to the command though.

Cheers!

ralphy -  thanks for clarifying what I needed to do. You were right I had looked at the lite-upgrade-system-series3 file. I deleted the no proxy switch, saved the file and attempted the upgrade but I still get the same error.

TheDead – I hope I have the correct Lite Upgrade Utility. I upgraded my system from 3.2 to 3.4 without out a problem.  I tried the temp cleanup before creating this thread using LiteTweaks, I’m not familiar with BleachBits. I tried to ping repo.linuxliteos.com but but it did not work until I put the  --no proxy switch back in the lite-upgrade-series3 file.  I’m familiar with ipconfig /flushdns command in Windows.

Unfortunately I have very little Linux knowledge. Hopefully someone will hit upon a solution. My hope is to not only get my system upgraded but also to learn a little more about Linux in the process. I also hope the solution works for humdiner70.

Per ralphy's instructions, I changed the timeout parameter on the wget command in /usr/bin/lite-upgrade-series3 file from -T1 to -T8. That solved the problem.

Thanks ralpy I’m at work now. I’ll try changing the time switch to T8 when I get home.

Humdinger70 good to hear changing the time switch worked for you. It gives me hope it’ll work for me.

I changed timeout to 8 seconds, saved the file, tried the upgrade and got the same error. I then checked the Lite updates and saw there was an update for the Lite Upgrade utility. I installed all updates and was able to upgrade without a problem. This worked for both PCs. Smile

Thanks for your help  ralphy! I greatly applicate it.
