Googles material design - thoughts?

What does the community think about Googles material design approach. Do flat icon themes look good on Linux Lite?

It's a matter of taste of course but I like the icons just fine. The wallpaper is a great improvement. Might want to create a few new icons for the specific network functions. When you view >All in the menu the network icons are all the same for the different network apps. The speed of this beta in boxes is remarkable to me given the old 755 Dell Optiplex I'm running Ubu on. Excellent work by the you and the team.

Is look nice icons and clean lines.
In Admin window - Archive Manager and Additional drivers icons, this colour is looking very nice with Linux Lite  8)
It would be good for Home folder icon, folder icons on open windows in panel, and workspace icons.

I would not use them. I like gnome brave icons and the Vivacious-zBlackoutBlue-Pro theme and the Vivaacious-zBlackout-Red Window Manager theme. For some reason, Arc Dark looks blue-gray instead of just gray on my monitor. For wallpapers, I like the original dark Linux Lite wallpapers or others I find or create.

But what themes and icons that comes with Linux Lite does does not matter because I can install other themes and icons. To appeal to newbies coming from Windows, you might want to consider icons and themes that look like Windows XP or maybe Windows 8.

I'm in agreement with Coastie. After removing unwanted/unneeded apps, installing those I do need/want, and running updates, about the next thing I do is install some different themes and icon themes. I don't necessarily see a lot wrong with the flat icons, but they wouldn't do for me. Right now I'm running Clearlooks Style, Tango2 Icons, and a wallpaper I downloaded from some site a few years ago.

But to specifically answer your question, Jerry, I don't see anything wrong with the flat icons. Maybe some emphasis should be placed on making sure new users to Linux and Linux Lite know how to change themes and icon themes, and how to download and install new themes.

There are easy to follow guides for that in the Help Manual.

We wouldn't go as far as using look-a-like Windows icons or themes as that could get us in a heap of trouble with MS down the line. What we can continue to do is give a similar or even more intuitive user experience. Many have rejected the tile approach that MS took, and the Start menu controversy - don't get me started We can do better. K.I.S.

At first glance the flat icons remind me of Manjaro.  I like them as an option or even a default.  I think the folks I've helped would like them, too. 


The main thing for me is no missing icons.  I don't like seeing in the menu a blank space where an icon should be.

Maybe you remember one of my first try at a wallpaper, windows v/s Linux Lite, you said to add it to social media, I didn't have then, but have just added it to G+, so people can share it on there or other ones they using.
