Remmina remote desktop client no longer working
#1
Does anyone regularly use Remmina? I can't connect anymore to remote desktop, SSH login or SFTP to my server, no settings have been changed. RDP etc from windows does connect, as does putty and another RDP client (whose name I can't just recall). It became 'broken' recently. Using LL3.4 with all updates installed. Can someone please test Remmina on their system?

I can confirm that I can connect to my server using Remmina from a LL2.8 installation.  Sad

Thanks.

Run it from a terminal, and see if the output helps.

Thanks for prompt response,

Run from terminal and output from attempts to RDP connect via internet, via local network and SSH via local network. Googling the errors does not help.

I use Remmina regularly on five different computers three LL 3.4 now, one Debian 8, and one Windows 10. No problems with through the router, or ad hoc. All secure shell and sftp connections work, as does rdp. I only use x11vnc for Linux to Linux rdp though, no other vnc apps. Looks to me like your router may have reassigned IP addresses. Check them all and put them into Remmina if they are not there, or incorrect.

Thank you trinidad, my server is on a static IP and I have tried the same IP with for example Putty, which connects and Remmina does not. Also the router connected devices shows the correct ip for the server. I have as a precaution restarted the router and removed/re-installed Remmina with no effect. Also I can connect using the same ip address with Remmina on a LL2.8 system. So still a mystery I'm afraid.

Doh! Sorry to have wasted anyones time - brain freeze! There are TWO connect buttons in Remmina, one for a selected connection and one associated with a text box. The latter one does not work, the first one does. I usually use the left button under the menu bar but for some unknown reason started to use the other one which does not work. So Remmina still DOES work in LL3.4.  :Smile :-[

Okay great. You seem to know what you're doing. Can you connect sftp to the IP address via Thunar in LL 3.4? If so then the issue is with Remmina and/or the particular vnc server on the other end, and maybe even the DE on the server side. What two systems are you connecting, i/e LL 3.4 Remmina is the client I assume, but what Linux system is the server? I have actually never had any trouble getting rdp displays via x11vnc onto a Remmina Linux Lite client, but have had occasional quirky difficulties in the other direction. I just tested it now after kernel update and still works fine to my Debian 8 box. I prefer Remmina for secure shell and sftp connections because they are all saved so easily.

Glad to hear it. Remmina is one of my favorite most used Linux applications. Great!

[member=5916]trinidad[/member], just for the records, yes sFTP works ok too and my server is a Raspberry Pi B+
The Remmina Quick Access button does not work for me but that is a problem I can live with for now as this thread is marked 'Solved'

Returning breifly to the subject of Remmina the Deb 9 version is still hung up in Deb development. Release date is uncertain. Deb 8 version still works perfectly since last update in Feb 17. I do not recommend the testing version. If you use Remmina regularly for work like I do, stick with LL (Ubuntu LTS) or Deb 8 for now.
