I know this can be done, but I've got a real mental block for some reason. What I want to do is create a Menu item and then also a Launcher to install new updates. I normally just open Synaptic, reload package info, then mark all upgrades and apply. No problem for me. However, that's more than my wife is comfortable with so I decided to just create a Menu item and a Launcher. But I can't for the life of me remember how to do it and I can't seem to find directions here in the forum or via a 'Net search. I'm brain dead. I can't even enter the right search words to locate what I want to do. Can somebody help me out? Thanks.

I can offer a suggestion. Right click on the task bar at the bottom. Then go panel < Add new item. Select 'Launcher' at the top of the list & click 'add' then 'close'. You'll see it adds a little box to the far right. Right click on it & select 'Move'. Click on the taskbar over by Firefox (or anything on the left side) & it will move this box there. Right click the box again & select 'Properties'. Click on the '+' sign. Scroll down the list until you get to 'Install updates'. Left Click on it, then click 'add' then 'close'. From now on every time you click on that box the 'Linux Lite updates' box will appear & then you just go through the process as usual. I have this added to the other items in the taskbar (along with VLC, Aisleriot, Firefox, terminal & home folder.) Very useful & quick. It's up to you, but it's always best to update Linux Lite by 'Install updates' than Synaptic.

It should already be in the menu if you haven't uninstalled the LL stuff. If you did you will need to install an update manager and do the normal stuff to create a launcher or easier for me to just relink the program. Look for the program out of the menu called [glow=red,2,300]Install Updates[/glow]. I have it in the Favorites but you should be able to find it by looking in the [glow=red,2,300]All[/glow]. That should be what you want.

If you find it in the Menu, right click on it & go Add to Panel, then move to the desired location in the Panel, from the Panel it's just a single click to launch it.

OK, guys. First off, thanks for the replies. I appreciate your efforts.
But secondly, I don't have a Menu entry called, "Install Updates". Never did have. After installing Lite on my laptop, one of the very first things I wanted to do was install updates so I could move on to things like installing a couple programs I wanted and then tweaking the appearance to my liking. I went through the Menu several times looking for a simple one click update. So the first time I just went ahead and clicked on the "Lite Welcome" menu entry and did the updates from the Welcome screen. I can do the updates on my laptop via Synaptic, but I want to be able to add a simple way for my wife to do updates on her laptop.
So what I'm really looking for is the actual command to set up a Menu item and/or Launcher. Maybe one of you could look at the properties of the "Install Updates" entry on your Menu and let me know what the command is.

BINGO! That's exactly what I was looking for. Man, oh, man. I was about to drive myself nuts trying to come up with that. I know I've created either menu items or launchers for "Updates" in other distros before, but I just could not remember how I did it or where I found the directions to do it. Unfortunately the medications I take for my health issues don't do a whole lot of good for my mental ability. After all the years helping others, I guess I find myself in the position of needing help now.
Thanks, again!
