I disabled secure boot, enabled legacy boot and moved usb/dvd rom to the top of the boot list.. saved that and booted up...it booted from the hard drive. Thanks for you efforts. I do appreciate it.

For some added info...
To access boot order from startup: From Manual http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04774205 2. Access BIOS: For computers or tablets with keyboards attached: ▲ Turn on or restart the computer or tablet, quickly press esc, and then press f9 for boot options. USB should be plugged in prior to booting If you plan to install LL to the drive and if you haven't yet turn off fast booting in Windows: http://lifehacker.com/enable-this-settin...1743697169

The only reason I persist is that I know how good linuxlite is, I had it on an older computer.
I disabled quick start...I disabled secure boot, enabled legacy boot and moved usb/dvd rom to the top of the boot list.. saved that and booted up...it booted from the hard drive. Thanks for you efforts. I do appreciate it. I choose boot to usb...but it doesn't change. The mark stays on os/hard drive boot (not sure of wording there).

Is it possible the ISO-to-USB process didn't work properly, and the USB drive isn't actually bootable? I know that's happened to me before, and sometimes using a different live-USB maker can help. Can you verify it's a good live-USB using another computer?

Hello Dana Marsee,
you will need DVD for the ISO size. Don't be deterred with the process being difficult, the good thing is you have already used LL so know it is very good distro. I was in the same position. Everything I had to learn to do was way beyond me (most all of it still is), there was not a single aspect of that I had ever done before, other than burning the dvd, which is not essential as it could be a USB. In the end working with the help and support from the experienced and advanced users in the community I got there, and I think you can too.

Thanks for the encouragement...at this point I need it. But I do love linux and I will get it installed eventually. Thanks again.
