Ubuntu Unity, Phased Out
#1
I didn't see this coming but I'm not exactly surpirsed either. It looks like Ubuntu will feature the Gnome desktop starting with 18.04 LTS. Also looks like Ubuntu phone is going to be retired.

Especially surprising that Ubuntu picked Gnome. Gnome is a long way from Gnome of Ubuntu 8.04.4. XFCE desktop in Xubuntu is a plain jane and is lacking in support with its own forum. I would have thought Ubuntu Mate would have been the choice. Mate DE is closer to the Gnome in 8.04.04 than the current Gnome and was developed because of the changes in Gnome. Plus Ubuntu Mate get plenty of development, support on its own forum, customization, and good reviews.

Maybe Canonical will get smart and hire Jerry and his team for big money to change Linux Lite to Ubuntu Lite and to develop and maintain Ubuntu Lite and drop Xubuntu!  ;D
