Hey, Dan!
All I can say , being a newbie myself, is that you chose the right distro for your first real plunge into the Linux world. While Linux Mint also has a very friendly community, LL is a little smaller so I think finding help is easier.
Either way, welcome.

To Delta555,
It's easier because we have one desktop environment, and.....I have to say it, a better Help Manual. Not hating, but when I had to use Linux Mint to get a UEFI install onto someone's laptop, I used the Linux Lite Help Manual to help me configure TRIM for the SSD I installed for them. I didn't see anything in the Mint manual for that.
By the way, I think that laptop didn't have a way for me to turn off the secure boot feature. I might've been able to update the BIOS to get that feature, but Windows was already off the machine, and if I recall correctly, it was one of those PCs that only did a BIOS update from a Windows desktop.

@Torry,
Yeah, I suppose not having to worry about 3(?) different DTE's would cut down on some time required to help out.
I'm doing my part to expand the community, I've installed LL on my mom and girlfriends computers. Getting them to make the jump from Windows will be my biggest achievement as far as i'm concerned.
I'm slowly turning them though, my GF is really liking Gimp and I've got both of them to use Thunderbird over Outlook. Luckily they aren't computer savvy enough to realize that Thunderbird isn't a Linux exclusive, lol.
